New works and works in progress

My work explores themes of loss, resilience, change and regeneration. I create bodies of work in oil, in words and using places to tell stories about modern day Britain, and how we have become whom we are. I don't paint simply what I see, but from memory of how it seems to me to live here, now, and in our time.

Each picture is an orchestration of my impressions of people places and events; an assembly of recollection.

My current project Regeneration documents life in the North of England through my relationship to the tradition of British landscape and genre painting, and will be shown at The Bowes from Nov 2020 - Feb 2021. The works on this page are working documents of this evolving process.
